Learning Beyond the Classroom: Creation Village Students Visit the Osceola County Fair

Experiential learning is a key part of the educational journey at Creation Village World School. Recently, students from Kindergarten through Grade 11 had the opportunity to step outside the classroom and into a dynamic learning environment during a special visit to the Osceola County Fair.

Located in the heart of Central Florida, the fair provided a unique setting where students could explore real-world connections between agriculture, science, innovation, and the arts. As part of the experience, students participated in a private 4-H tour hosted by the University of Florida’s IFAS Extension program. This immersive experience allowed students to interact with exhibits and demonstrations that highlighted the importance of agriculture and community in our region.

Throughout the day, students explored citrus and plant exhibits, observed animal showcases, engaged in hands-on STEM activities, and discovered creative arts displays. These experiences allowed learners across all grade levels to see firsthand how different disciplines intersect and influence the world around them.

For students, experiences like this reinforce the International Baccalaureate philosophy of learning through inquiry and real-world exploration. As students navigated the fairgrounds, they demonstrated many of the key IB Learner Profile traits that guide our educational approach.

Students embraced their role as Inquirers, asking thoughtful questions and exploring new topics with curiosity. They deepened their understanding as Knowledgeable learners while connecting classroom lessons to real-world examples. As Thinkers, they analyzed what they observed and considered how agriculture, science, and sustainability impact communities locally and globally.

The visit also encouraged students to grow as Communicators, sharing insights and collaborating with peers throughout the experience. By stepping outside their comfort zones and engaging with new environments, they demonstrated the courage of Risk-Takers. At the same time, they practiced being Open-Minded, appreciating the diverse talents, traditions, and innovations showcased throughout the fair.

Field experiences like this are an important part of the holistic education offered at Creation Village World School.
