Advent Reflections: Growing in Light, Connection, and Compassion

Christmas All School Chapel
During Advent last month, our students engaged in a meaningful experience that reflected the heart of Creation Village World School—faith, relationship, and whole-child formation. Grounded in our Christ-centered approach (CSI) and supported by the RULER framework from the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence, this experience intentionally connected spiritual reflection with social-emotional learning.

Through Buddy interactions, older and younger students explored the Advent themes of hope, peace, joy, and love, considering how these gifts of the season are lived out through our emotions and actions. As students reflected on ways to support others—whether offering hope in sadness, peace in high energy, joy in calm moments, or love through frustration—they practiced empathy, self-awareness, and compassion in authentic ways.

The Christmas paper chain they created became a powerful symbol of our Village. Each link represented an individual reflection, and together they formed a unified whole, displayed on our school Christmas tree as a reminder that emotional well-being and spiritual formation are deeply connected.

This Advent experience strengthened relationships, deepened emotional language, and helped students live out Christ’s light in practical, tangible ways—an impact that continues to shape our community well beyond the season.
