Healthy tech at home

Our Digital Stewardship Model keeps the school day focused and present. In PreK3 to Grade 8, personal phones, smartwatches and non-school devices are not used on campus during school hours. In Grades 9 to 12, phones and smartwatches stay off and in backpacks unless a teacher allows them for learning or health. Habits at home matter just as much. Many families find these four norms from The Anxious Generation a helpful starting point:

• No smartphones before high school. A basic phone or watch works for calls and texts.
• No social media before 16.
• Phone-free school days, which CVWS already practises.
• More independence, free play and responsibility in the real world.

We also teach these habits at school as part of the Portrait of a Graduate, from bedtime routines in PreK to a personal plan for technology, rest and relationships by Grade 12.
